Accommodations

The Shanghai Tourism Administration disclosed that in the 184 days of the Expo, there will be 65 accommodation shortage days, which include 17 extreme peak days before and after the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as 48 peak days on weekends. During the period, Shanghai can only provide about 557,000 beds, just barely meeting the tourists' accommodation demands. In order to scatter the tourists, Shanghai will enlarge the accommodation resources, such as the vacant students' dormitories, staff quarters and the ordinary citizens' houses, all of which will be used to temporarily accommodate the tourists.

Shanghai Tourism Administration has decided to make use of the surrounding cities on the Yangtze River Delta, which is a less than 1.5 hour bus ride away from Shanghai, including Hangzhou, Huzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi and Jiaxing. These cities will provide a total of 249,000 beds and then the accommodation resources will be launched on the Internet so the tourists can make their choice and make reservations online.

Transportation

If you take the plane from to Shanghai, you will arrive at Pudong International Airport. Following the airport signs, you can take the maglev train and directly arrive at the Longyang Road station, and after walking out of the stop, you can take the bus No. 976 and get off at the Shangnanlu Ercun Stop and then walk about 1 kilometer to reach the South Gate of the Expo Park. The fares are 40 yuan for each maglev train ticket and 2 yuan for each bus ticket.

For train travelers arriving at Shanghai Railway Station, you can reach the Century Avenue Station by Subway line 4 and then transfer to line 2 to reach Dongchang Road Station; or you can directly arrive at Dongchang Road Stop by bus No. 955 or No. 584 and then walk about 10 minutes to reach the Expo museum; you also can take the subway line 1 and transfer to line 2 at People's Square to reach Dongchang Road. Fare: 5 yuan for each person.

Tips for Expo site visitors

No soft drinks are allowed in the Expo site.

The Expo stipulates that the tourists are not permitted to bring soft drinks into the Expo, but there are 95 water stations in the museum and a total of 2000 taps are set to offer free potable water for the tourists, as well as the sanitary cups.

Do not be surprised with people who try to get you to stay at their hotels.

The biggest problem for the DIY tourists in Shanghai is accommodations. The relevant departments of Shanghai remind tourists to never believe those who try to induce you to lodge at their hotels, because not only are their accommodation fees expensive but also you might lose money.

Make sure to bring a map.

Because the Expo Park is very large, the DIY tourists should bring a map and plan their route in advance to avoid missing or repeating visiting some exhibition areas. Do not believe strangers.

Find the parking lots so you can avoid detours.

There are 6 special parking lots around the Expo Park. If you want to rent a car to visit the Expo, you'd better drive to one of the parking lots because they are the closest possible parking areas to the Expo.

Must-see pavilions

The Chinese Pavilion: showcasing the charms of all provinces and regions

The exhibition areas of all provinces and cities are set on the Chinese Pavilion's first floor, with each area covering 600 square meters. Despite the fact that the area is not very large, all provinces and cities have an opportunity to display themselves, such as the Guizhou Pavilion, which is the only all-solid wood pavilion and has unique architectures like flower bridge biers, a drum-tower frame and wind-rain bridge. The Turkish Pavilion: a maze of dreams
