“人艰不拆”、“不明觉厉”……新一波网络用语意味着什么?
If there’s one thing in life that you can alwayscount on,it’s change.Yes,change is constant and all around us.As we say goodbye to the past year, there’s lots of Internet buzz around the changes we witnessed in2013.
Due to the reality of the digital age,new trends spread more quickly than ever. The Internet affects and spreads everything from fashion to dance crazes and even the language we use on a daily basis. The latter has been getting more attention in recent years as some worry that language is in a downward spiral.Language and Change(九年级阅读) - 称子英语 - 孙广趁教育教学工作室

Online media, especially social media, has helped popularize many new slang Chinese expressions in the past year. For example, the expression renjian buchai(人艰不拆),meaning “Life is hard enough;don’t make it worse by pointing out the truth.”It came from the lyrics of a song by pop singer Yoga Lin(林宥嘉),and, due to it’s repeated reuse online,it has since come to refer to one’s inability to face hard truths.Perhaps the majority of us are unable to face a hard truth—language is deteriorating. But is it really?
The fact is,language is constantly changing. If you don’t believe me,ask yourself when was the last time you heard an English native speaker cry out“wherefore art thou?”Unless you’ve read Romeo and Juliet, you’ve probably never heard of this expression and you likely have no idea what it means.Perhaps you’d be inclined to say buming jueli(不明觉厉),meaning“I don’t know what that is/I don’t quite get what you’re talking about, but I think that’s/you’re terrific.”
If neither of these two slang expressions sounds familiar to you, then perhaps you don’t spend much time online.Nowadays, newexpressions pop up on the Internet, seemingly overnight, and, within a very short period of time, become so widely used in cyberspace that they begin to seep into everyday speech.Anyone who doesn’t“get it”would likely be considered“out of touch.”
Our world is rapidly changing.New products, industries, technologies and experiences simply need new words. The only reason a slang expression catches on is because a large number of people see a need for it.As long as these terms are used in appropriate contexts, there’s nothing wrong with keeping up with change.
