Some good news for food enthusiasts: the longtime wait is over! The secondseason of the hit documentary series “A Bite of China” returns, which of course means more hours salivating(垂涎) in front of your television sets.

Probably the highest-rated TV documentary that China has ever made, the new season consists of seven episodes plus one behind-the-scenes special. The eight-episode documentary sees the filming crew visit 150 different parts of China to film the food-gathering techniques of various ethnic groups(族群) over the course of a year. More than 300 types of food are covered in the documentary. Hot topics, such as education, will also be discussed in the documentary series.
At the premiere(首播) of the second season, the chief director Chen Xiaoqing(陈晓卿) said the sequel(续集) to the successful 2012 documentary “A Bite of China” about Chinese food culture would continue to explore the relationship between people and food. And the producer Hu Zhanfan(胡占凡) stated, “There is a Chinese Dream inside ‘A Bite of China.’ It’s the pursuit of happiness, the optimism about life, the harmony of nature’s simple emotions behind Chinese food.”
In addition to merely seeing the food on television, TV viewers can shop for ingredients online to make the dishes, snacks and specialties mentioned in the episodes when they are watching the documentary series.
Tmall.com, a major online shopping site in China, now cooperates with the CCTV to simultaneously(同时地) showcase all the ingredients and the kitchen utensils(用具) used in the preparation of the specialties introduced in “A Bite of China II” on the website as the programairs.
After the first episode, the one aspect of the newseason that viewers have been praising is its ability to make them long for home and the tastes of childhood. However, other TVviewers aren’t as impressed. They think, instead of an emphasis on food, the new season focuses more on the people preparing and eating it.
