I n 2013, “selfie(自拍)”was named “Word of the Year” by Oxford Dictionaries. But this year, the word “shelfie(书架自拍)”has replaced “selfie” as one of the most popular words in the world.
Like the selfie, a shelfie is a kind of self-portrait(自画像，自拍像). It doesn’t reveal the truths to be found in a photographer’s face. Instead, a shelfie shows what you can learn about someone from looking at his or her bookshelf. Now, more and more people like to share photos of their bookshelves or library shelves on social media websites (社交网站). It becomes very popular among young people.
Early this year, the New York Public Library even ran a “shelfie” competition. They asked book lovers to take photos of their own bookshelves or favorite library shelves to show their love for books and bookshelves.
