Chinese sneakers bounce back(八年级阅读)

       So, you’re looking at a picture of grandpa when he was a young man and you think to yourself, “Gee, those sneakers he’s wearing are really ugly!” Well, think again. Grandpa’s old sneakers are now a hot fashion item in both China and Europe. Grandpa (and maybe grandma, too!) probably wore Feiyue or Huili brand sneakers when he was younger. There was nothing fancy about these shoes; just a canvas top and a rubber sole. But they were well-made and durable and they were very, very cheap.
  When big brands like Nike and Adidas arrived in China, people stopped wearing the Chinese brands because they considered them old fashioned and uncool. In 2005, however, a young Frenchman named Patrice Bastian came to China for a visit. As he was wandering around a market one day, he saw a pair of Feiyue sneakers. He liked them because they were plain, simple, and honest. They were the perfect answer to over-priced, over-hyped foreign sneaker brands. With a little re-design, Bastian took Feiyue to Europe and the brand became an instant success. Even movie stars like Orlando Bloom started to wear them.
  The Huili brand (known as Warrior in Europe) is enjoying renewed popularity, too. Chinese teenagers like the idea of wearing Chinese brands. And Huili sneakers not only look good, they cost much less than foreign brands as well. Huili also offers something different: they have a made-to-order service that lets you design your own sneakers!
  With Feiyue and Huili bouncing back to popularity it proves that Chinese brands can compete with the world’s best. Now, do you still think grandpa’s sneakers are ugly?
